Collecting Feedback via Email Surveys with Screeb

Email surveys are a widely used method for gathering feedback from users, especially those who are no longer on your platform or those with whom you wish to maintain ongoing contact. It can be very useful for your monthly Emailing Product Newsletter for example!

Step 1: Create a Survey

Before diving in, create your survey :

Step 2: Access the Email Feedback Channel

Once your survey created, you can go to the share section, then select the “Email Survey

Note: If this page looks different from what you expect, it may be because you’ve already used this survey with another feedback channel. No worries! You can enable multiple channels for the same survey. Just head to the left sidebar, then go to “Email” > “Diffusion.”

Step 3: Preview Your Email Survey

Click “Preview” button to see how your survey will appear in an email.

You can also preview your survey and share this preview publicly by going on the left sidebar, then click on “Email” > “Preview

The default survey design displays the first question of your survey—here’s an example featuring a Satisfaction survey. Screeb provides a survey for nearly every question type.

If a question type isn’t supported, it defaults to this format :

The primary goal of Email survey format is to allow users to answer the first question directly in the email. When clicked, this answer is recorded, and the user is redirected to a custom page to complete the rest of the survey.

Since users will be responding through an external landing page, they won't have the same context or identity properties as they would on your platform.

By default, Screeb considers these users anonymous, but you can add parameters to the URL to personalize this.

By default, these users will be considered anonymous by Screeb, but you can prevent this by adding parameters to the URL.

Introduction to URL Builder

The URL Builder lets you add custom properties to your URL in a user-friendly way. These properties are encoded and linked to the user when they click the URL.

URLs are represented by buttons, but they function the same way as standard URLs with query parameters (e.g., key1=value1&key2=value2…). Enter the key in the Parameter column and the corresponding value in the Value column.

The survey refreshes automatically, so finalize your parameters before copying the email survey.

👉 Use value placeholders for your favorite email campaign tool! Example: key=respondent_id → value= {{ email }} Your tool will recognize the survey and replace it with the actual value.

Step 4: Customize Your Email Design

By default, the email design uses the global design settings for your workspace. If you want a unique design for this specific email, follow these steps:

Go to the Design section by clicking “Email” > “Design” on the left sidebar, then enable a custom design for this survey.

You can customize:

  • The background color of the email survey

  • The text color of the email survey

  • The background of the hosted page where users land after clicking the survey link

You can preview your design changes in real time!

Here is an example :

👉 Don’t Forget to Save once finished!

Step 5: Share Your Survey

Once your URL is ready with the necessary parameters, you’re set to share your survey. Distribute it via email, social media, or embed it on your website. Always test your link before sharing to ensure everything works as expected.
